Patrick J. Denard, MD
Dr. Patrick J. Denard is a Board-eligible, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in all aspects of shoulder care including minimally-invasive shoulder surgery, reverse shoulder replacement, and fracture treatment.
• Arthroscopy (Minimally Invasive Shoulder Surgery)
• Fracture Treatment
Dr. Denard specializes in all aspects of shoulder care. He is the only orthopedic surgeon in Southern Oregon who has performed a fellowship which specifically focuses on the shoulder. He cares for all ages of patients with shoulder problems.
Dr. Denard is a native Oregonian. He attended college at the University of Puget Sound where he earned a Bachelor of Science and was an academic all-American. He obtained his medical degree at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. He then returned home to Oregon to complete his orthopedic residency training at Oregon Health & Science University where he received the research award as a chief resident.
After residency he completed specialized fellowship training in shoulder arthroscopy in San Antonio, Texas under Dr. Stephen Burkhart, who is considered by many to be among the best shoulder arthroscopists in the world. With this training Dr. Denard is able to perform the vast majority of shoulder procedures in a minimally invasive fashion including all types of rotator cuff repairs, instability repairs, and many fractures. Finally, Dr. Denard completed a fellowship in shoulder replacement surgery in Lyon, France under Dr. Gilles Walch, one of the developers of the current prosthesis used in reverse shoulder replacement. Reverse shoulder replacement provides a solution for some previously untreatable shoulder conditions.
In addition to his position at Southern Oregon Orthopedics, Dr. Denard is an Instructor at Oregon Health & Science University, reviews journal articles for Orthopedics and The Arthroscopy Journal, and instructs other orthopedists on shoulder arthroscopy. He is the most widely published shoulder specialist in the state of Oregon, having published multiple textbook chapters and over 30 research articles. He has presented his research both within the United States and internationally. He is the co-author of a textbook on shoulder surgery: “The Cowboy’s Companion: A Trail Guide for the Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgeon” (get it on Amazon), which provides step-by-step instructions for orthopedic surgeons performing shoulder arthroscopy.
“I want to provide the highest level of orthopedic care possible in Southern Oregon and Northern California. I stay up-to-date on the latest research so that my patients get the best that is currently available in shoulder care. Whether through nonoperative means or surgery, my goal is to help my patients understand their condition and achieve the highest function possible. If you have shoulder pain we will work together to the best of our ability to make you better.”
