Shock Wave Therapy
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy at Southern Oregon Orthopedics
At Southern Oregon Orthopedics, we always look for ways to improve and offer our patients the latest treatment options. To continue this effort, our physical therapists offer extracorporeal shock wave therapy to help stimulate the body's healing process.
This form of therapy utilizes audible sound waves generated outside the body (extracorporeal) to target painful areas. These low-energy shock waves promote the natural process of healing in the body, stimulate the metabolism, and improve blood circulation.
Over the years, shock wave therapy has also proven to be a useful technique to systematically eliminate pathological alterations of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones. When performed by our physical therapists, this pain therapy approach has minimal risks and side effects.
Our therapists possess the experience and training to treat pain from your neck down to your feet using extracorporeal shock wave therapy. Our full range of injuries and conditions treated includes:
- Achilles tendon pain
- Back pain
- Chronic neck pain
- Chronic shoulder pain
- Fascial pain
- Heel pain
- Patellar tendonitis (medically referred to as tendinitis)
- Shin pain/tibial stress syndrome
- Tennis or golfer’s elbow
- Trigger points
Our physical therapists will make an in-depth examination of your pain and history and discuss the findings with you as well as a treatment plan. A skin gel is then applied to the region of pain allowing the shock waves to be applied to the body without losing any energy. Shock waves are then applied in a circular motion over the area of pain.
Each shock wave therapy session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, and times vary based on the condition being treated. Three to six treatments at weekly intervals are used for most conditions.
However, many patients report a significant or complete pain reduction after just one or two sessions. They also notice restored mobility and an improved quality of life.
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy is available to current patients at Southern Oregon Orthopedics. This new therapy is not covered by insurance, and pricing starts at $75 for an individual session. These treatments are available at our Medford location.
